Volunteering

There is always a need for volunteers at our school.   We have several committees that are in need of members to help meet their goals. Some of the areas where volunteers are needed are detailed below.

The Accelerated Reader program needs helpers to track students point levels and make sure they get the rewards they earn, plan the mid year party and end of year awards.

The Hospitality Committee is responsible for organizing food donations /catering for PTA events. This includes planning teacher luncheons and teacher treats, organizing and communicating about teacher's favorite things, Nurse's Day, Librarian week, Teacher appreciation week themes, and planning the teacher appreciation week luncheon.

Our Watch D.O.G.S program invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day at their child's/student's school during the school year. The program is overseen by a “Top Dog” volunteer who partners with the school administrator to coordinate scheduling and identify opportunities for WatchDOGS to provide assistance at the school.

Another important area we need help with is our fund raising committee. The funds we raise support the programs and services that we offer. The members of this committee are responsible for assisting the chair in collection and distribution of fundraiser items, organizing fund-raising activities and events. This committee includes the following sub areas donations, catalog fundraisers, restaurant donations/ spirit nights, our holiday shop in December, and rebates program like Box Tops for Education.

The members of the Spirit Apparel committee are responsible for assisting the chair in the design, ordering, sale and distribution of spirit apparel. This includes spirit t-shirts, hoodies, lanyards, spirit sticks and Hoopla Day shirts

Teacher workroom requests are another important way that parents can help our teachers and staff. Copying, Laminating and other teacher prep work are tasks that occur on a daily basis.

We are also looking for help with our yearbook. All you need to do is take pictures at school events, and send them in to us at CJHarrisPTA@gmail.com.  You can also turn them in to the PTA room at the school. Keep in mind that pictures taken with a cell phone camera are usually not high enough quality to be used in the yearbook.

Ms. Laitkep can always use a hand in the library with shelving books and keeping the library neat and organized for our students.

Extra help in the lunchroom is also always appreciated, or you can contact your child's teacher and ask if there is anything you can do to help out.

There are also a number of short term projects and programs that you can be involved with throughout the year.  Some of them are Health and Safety- Red Ribbon Week (Drug abuse prevention education); Cultural Arts/Arts in Education (Day in the Arts); STAAR Testing program, incentives and snacks; Fourth Grade Recognition; and Hoopla Day support.

If you are able to help with any of these items, please attend our upcoming volunteer orientation on September 10th at 10AM for more information about how you can help. I look forward to meeting you, and working with you.  Thank you for helping to make CJ Harris a great place for our children to learn and grow.
